Through the general election on November 8, on every Tuesday and Thursday on the MLC Blog we will be highlighting races for which due to the voter base the seat could be won by either the Democratic or Republican candidate.  Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available, in addition to a portion of endorsements (when applicable).

District Overview
The 30th House District is located in Macomb County and includes Utica and portions of Shelby Charter Township and Sterling Heights.  The district has a 52% Republican base.

Commentary
Due to term limits, Representative Jeff Farrington (R-Utica) is serving his third and final term in office.  This open seat is one of the more competitive districts in the state and is one to watch this November as the Democratic caucus hopes to pick up this seat.  The Republican candidate and wife of current Representative, Diana Farrington, recently attempted to have her challenger removed from the ballot.  She stated that Michael Notte did not meet the residency requirements to be eligible for the seat.  However, a Macomb County Judge did not find him ineligible to be on the ballot this November.

Democratic Candidate:

• Michael Notte – Auto industry worker, chairman of the UAW Local 889 Community Action Program.
  • Primary Endorsements – Michigan Corn Growers Association.
  • General Endorsement – Michigan AFL-CIO.

Republican Candidate:

• Diana Farrington – Mortgage auditor.
  • Primary Endorsements – Michigan Realtors Association, Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce, County Road Association of Michigan, Michigan Manufacturers Association.
  • General Endorsements – Michigan Restaurant Association, National Association of Independent Business-Michigan, Property Management Association of Michigan.
