General Election Overview: 21st House District

Through the general election on November 3, the MLC Blog will be highlighting races generally considered swing seats, ones either party could win because of the voter base. Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.

District Overview

The 21^st House District is located in portions of Oakland County and includes Novi Township and portions of Novi, Northville, and Lyon Charter Township.

Commentary

The Democratic party has a slight edge in this seat with a 51.7% base. Representative Breen is running for her second term in office, facing Republican candidate David Staudt, the Mayor Pro-Tem of Novi. Although, Representative Breen has the advantage as the incumbent candidate and her avid work ethic in the district, her Republican opponent will give her a tough reelection race given his campaign experience and service in local government.

Democratic Candidate:

Representative Kelly Breen – State representative, attorney, former Novi City Councilwoman.

Republican Candidate:

David Staudt – Novi Mayor Pro-Tem, worked in executive management, small business owner.

James Young
