General Election Overview: 20th House District

Through the general election on November 8, on every Tuesday and Thursday on the MLC Blog we will be highlighting races for which due to the voter base the seat could be won by either the Democratic or Republican candidate. Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available, in addition to a portion of endorsements (when applicable).

District Overview

The 20^th House District is located in Wayne County and includes a portion of Canton Township and a portion of Northville, Northville Township, Plymouth, and Plymouth Township.

Commentary

This seat is open due to Representative Kurt Heise (R-Plymouth) being ineligible for reelection due to term limits. While the district boasts a 57% Republican base, it tends to be more moderate and in 2010 was represented by Democratic Representative Marc Corriveau. The seat is likely to remain in the Republican column, however due to the base the Democratic caucus is keeping this district in the “maybe” column to pick up this November.

Democratic Candidate:

Colleeen Pobur – Plymouth City Commissioner, former Director of Concessions and Quality Assurance at Detroit Metro Airport, former Michigan Liquor Control Commissioner (2008-2012), served as Chief Operating Officer for Governor Jennifer Granholm’s 2002 campaign.
- Primary Endorsement – Michigan AFL-CIO.

Republican Candidate:

Jeff Noble – Pastor.
- Primary Endorsements – Right to Life of Michigan, Senator Patrick Colbeck, National Association for Gun Rights.
