General Election Overview: 19th House District

Through the general election on November 3, the MLC Blog will be highlighting races generally considered swing seats, ones either party could win because of the voter base. Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.

District Overview

The 19^th Michigan House District is located in Wayne County and includes a portion of the City of Livonia.

Commentary

Representative Pohutsky is running for her second term in office. During her first term in office, she has served on the following committees:

- Health Policy Committee
- Natural Resources and Outdoor Recreation Committee

The district has a 56% Republican base. In 2016 President Trump received 53.97% of the vote, but in 2018 Governor Whitmer received 53.34% of the vote. This is a top seat for Democrat’s to protect and all Republican eyes and efforts will be focused on re-taking it.

Democratic Candidate:

- Representative Laurie Pohutsky – State Representative, worked in a laboratory as a microbiologist

Republican Candidate:

- Martha Ptashnik – High school teacher, former buyer
