In the Fall of 2021, I set out on a new beginning as a lobbyist for Michigan Legislative Consultants. As the first in my family to graduate college and gain a professional degree, I was unaware of the career path of lobbying until college. The notion and position of a lobbyist was first introduced to me when I interned for Campaign for America’s Future/Apollo Alliance during my time at Howard University. I saw first-hand how lobbyists worked with public officials to influence and advocate on behalf of their cause. That impression, and their zeal, lived in the back of my mind. I imagined the ability to impact legislation and policy. I think about that often now that I am full circle with the ability to work on behalf of clients to impact legislation and policy. Although a novitiate in the field of lobbying, I have been an advocate for years.

The opportunity to utilize my advocacy skills on behalf of businesses is due to my philosophy of embracing new beginnings. As a person who has been the first in her family, I have had to embrace new beginnings. I understood at an early age that new beginnings were opportunities to learn, hone a skill, or lean into who I was as a person. This work allows me new beginnings each day; working through strategy or crafting a message to connect with public officials. Through MLC I am able to affect the state around me and fully realize the dream that young college freshman had.
