Republican candidate Tudor Dixon announced her choice for a running mate in the gubernatorial election this November. Last Friday, she named Shane Hernandez as her pick and that is expected to be made official at the Michigan Republican Party’s nominating convention this Saturday, August 27.
The former lawmaker served two terms in the Michigan House of Representatives, of which he served as chair of the House Appropriations Committee during his second term. While serving in the legislature, he was named the most conservative member in 2017 by MIRS, a Capital news outlet. He left the House to run for congress but was unsuccessful in his bid. After that, he worked crafting and directing the House GOP caucuses’ policy under Speaker Jason Wentworth, a position he held until June of this year. If elected, former Representative Hernandez would be the first Hispanic lt. governor in the state’s history.
