Final COVID Task Force Report Released

Mar 11, 2022

The Michigan Coronavirus Racial Disparities Taskforce released recommendations for collaborative policy, programming, and systemic change to protect communities of color from the spread of COVID-19. The report, which provided a progress report on the taskforce’s short- and long-term goals, found that actions taken by the State in 2020 and 2021 helped reduce health-based racial disparities.

Recommendations within the report include:

    • Improve racial and ethnic data collection and use that data in order to address racial and ethnic disparities
    • Continued funding for neighborhood testing and vaccination sites
    • Reduce the number of uninsured and underinsured
    • Maximize the use of school-based clinics
    • Reduce exposure risks in environmental justice communities related to air quality

The taskforce was established in April 2020 to review the racial disparities that were occurring among deaths from COVID-19. Chaired by Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist, members consisted of a variety of leaders from government, academia, and the private sector, health care, economic development, education, and other disciplines.
