F-35’s, Energy, Chain of Title … All in a Day’s Conversation

Apr 25, 2018

What does a fighter jet, electricity rates and land title insurance have in common?  Those are all issues that a lobbyist can find herself talking about in a day’s work.

One of the questions that I frequently get asked is “What do you like most about lobbying?”  My reply is that I get the ability to work on a wide variety of issues with a lot of fantastic people. On any given day, I can find myself talking about the positive impact that building an F-35 Lightening II has on Michigan’s economy, to how high electricity rates are a drawback on the economy and then I’ll be on to a subject related to the importance of Michigan implementing clarifying laws to strengthen the Marketable Title Act.  Those conversations can happen all before lunch depending on the day. That doesn’t even cover all of my other wonderful clients’ issues that they trust me to work on.

Each unique issue also allows me the ability to meet and talk with interesting people and consistently learn new things.  Even after 20-plus years of working with the Legislature, I am still constantly learning something new.  I also get the privilege of working with ideas and the satisfaction of seeing them become laws or rules.  Or, sometimes ensuring that they don’t become a law or rule because of the unintended consequences that stem from them.

There are many, many things to like about lobbying.  But, the examples above are some of my favorites.
