Executive Office Staff Changes Announced

Feb 11, 2022

Governor Gretchen Whitmer made a number of announcements regarding her team in the executive office. First, Shaquila Myers was appointed senior advisor to the governor. Prior to that, she served as chief of staff to Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist, a role she’s held since his election. Before joining the executive team, Ms. Myers was the legislative director for Senate Minority Leader Jim Ananich (D-Flint) and a policy analyst for the Michigan Senate.

Serving as chief communications officer will be Haylie Hanson. She comes to the role after serving as senior advisor to U.S. Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut. She’s served in other roles on Capitol Hill and on gubernatorial and senatorial campaigns. Additionally, she worked as communications director for NARAL Pro-Choice America.

Three new policy advisors were also announced:

    • Stephanie O’Dea will serve as the K-12 policy advisor
    • Algeria Wilson will serve as Health and Equity policy advisor
    • Aya Takai will serve as a generalist policy advisor
