The City of Flint’s water system again tested below action levels of the federal Lead and Copper Rule for the second consecutive six-month monitoring period. The latest round of testing shows that 90% of the Tier I samples collected are at or below 7 parts per billion, which is less than half of the federal action level. The Department of Environmental Quality stated that the water quality in Flint is restored and now tests the same or better than many cities in Michigan and the US.
As a result of the latest water quality testing results, there are multiple items that are no longer required by the Concerned Pastors for Social Action settlement filed in federal court this past April. For example, community points of free bottled water distribution were required, but now that the water has consistently met the federal requirements, the distribution sites will no longer be required after September. However, under the plan, four distribution centers will remain open indefinitely.
