Lansing Mayor Andy Schor announced that several streets around the Capitol will be converting from one-way to two-way streets. While this has been discussed in the past, the cost was always prohibitive to the city. However, in December the legislature passed, and the governor signed, a supplemental appropriation that included $3.3 million towards this effort. According to Mayor Schor this conversion will boost the downtown area, while increasing safety and providing a more vibrant business climate. The streets slated to change to two-way streets are Grand Avenue, Capitol Avenue, Walnut, Pine, Ottawa and Allegan.
