Departments Holding Forums on Improving Drinking Water

Sep 02, 2022

Two departments have teamed up for a series of discussions aimed at engaging the public to hear feedback on ways to strengthen protections of public health through the delivery of clean, safe water. The Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, along with the Department of Health and Human Services, will host two sessions this month discussing way to improve the Safe Drinking Water Act and the Public Health Code.

In November 2021, Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued an executive order directing all state agencies “to undertake a comprehensive review of the state’s role in our drinking water systems. This review [focuses] on both prevention and response when water quality issues arise . . . [and] will result in action by providing recommendations [from state agencies] on what needs to be done to ensure every parent can hand their child a glass of water with confidence.”

The sessions will be virtual to accommodate as many individuals as possible, but registration is required by clicking here. Session one will take place on Wednesday, September 7, from 6 – 8 p.m. The second session is slated for Monday, September 12, from 10 a.m. to noon.
