Department of Health and Human Services Reorganizes

Apr 15, 2016

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has undertaken a major reorganization of the department’s structure.  Under the new configuration, the Population Health and Community Services Administration will oversee the Office of Local Health Services and it will be renamed the Bureau of Health and Wellness.  This change moves it within the DHHS Executive Office.  There was additional restructuring within the department, as outlined below:

  • Population Health and Community Services

    • Bureau of Epidemiology and Population Health – This newly created bureau is comprised of the former Bureau of Disease Control, Prevention, and Epidemiology and the former Bureau of Family, Maternal, and Child Health.

      • Division of Family and Community Health
      • Division of Communicable Diseases
      • Division of Lifecourse Epidemiology and Genomics
      • Division of Environmental Health
      • Zoonotic Disease and Special Projects Section

Some of the restructuring came as a result of the department’s management of the legionnaire’s outbreak that occurred in Genesee County.  The organizational changes take effective on April 18.
