Democratic Caucuses Introduce ‘Michigan Jobs First’ Legislation

This week, members of the House and Senate Democratic Caucuses formally introduced their “Michigan Jobs First” legislation. The bill package gives Michigan companies preference when bidding on government contracts. Details of the four-bill package include:

Gives Michigan companies an 8% financial advantage when competing for state contracts
Gives in-state businesses thirty-days to resubmit their bids if they lose to an out-of-state company on state or local government contracts
Requires states agencies to post online the names of companies that receive contracts as well as the salary and number of jobs created or maintained by the contract

The Senate bill was referred to the Senate Elections and Government Reform Committee. Two of the House bills were referred to the House Commerce and Trade Committee and the final House bill was referred to the House Oversight Committee.
