Court of Appeals Chief Judge Named

This week, the Michigan Supreme Court announced that Judge Christopher Murray will serve as the next chief judge of the Court of Appeals. Judge Murray will step into the role on April 25, following the retirement of current Chief Judge Michael Talbot. It was also announced that Judge Murray will serve as Chief Judge of the Court of Claims. Judge Murray has served on the Court of Appeals since 2002. Prior to that, he served as a judge on the Wayne Circuit Court, deputy legal counsel to Governor John Engler, and a private practice attorney. He graduated from Hillsdale College and the University of Detroit School of Law.

Court of Appeals Judge Colleen O’Brien has been appointed to the Court of Claims, filling a vacancy that will be created following Judge Talbot’s retirement. Judge O’Brien has served on the Court of Appeals since 2015. Prior to that, she served on the Oakland County Circuit Court and was a private practice attorney. She graduated from the University of Michigan and the Detroit College of Law.
