Court Denies Injunction on Straight Ticket Voting Ban

Last week, Attorney General Bill Schuette filed a motion with the 6^th U.S. District Court of Appeals asking them to stay or vacate the U.S. District Court’s ruling against the state’s ban on straight-ticket voting (see prior article). This week, the three Judges on the Appeals Court unanimously denied the motion seeking to keep in place the state’s ban. On Thursday, the Attorney General filed a motion requesting the entire 6th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals stay the District Court's ruling that prevented Michigan's ban on straight ticket voting. He has requested a hearing and a ruling from the Court by August 30, giving both parties an opportunity to appeal to the Supreme Court if they deem necessary.
