Contract Extended for Superintendent of Public Instruction

This week, the State Board of Education unanimously approved a one-year contract extension for the Superintendent for Public Instruction, Brian Whiston. The extension followed the high marks the board gave him during his first annual evaluation. The evaluation was comprised of several key factors, including his alignment with the State Board; his work with the education community, Governor and legislature; his management of the Department of Education; his technical leadership on education issues and policy; and progress towards goals set by the State Board on moving education indicators towards student achievement gains. In a closed door meeting, board members unanimously rated Mr. Whiston highly effective and very effective on the factors.
