Committees Reports Budget Bills

This week both the Senate and House Appropriations Committees and Subcommittees reported several bills for the upcoming fiscal year to the full Senate and House floors for consideration.

Key points of the Senate budgets include:

    • K-12 foundation allowance increase between $135-$270 per pupil
    • Constitutional revenue sharing would increase by $51.2 million
    • An additional investment of $132 million for local roads
    • Funding for 85 new state police troopers
    • $120 million for drinking water protections
    • Fully implements the legislative road funding plan one year early
    • Reduces funding to the Attorney General’s by 10%
    • A reduction of $17.3 million to the Children’s Services Agency
    • $6 million for rural hospitals

Key points of the House budgets include:

    • $6 million to implement the recreational marijuana program
    • $499,300 for an anti-fraud unit
    • Overall reductions to the Judiciary, Department of Insurance and Financial Services, and the Licensing and Regulatory Affairs budgets
    • Funding for two additional employees at the State Appellate Defender Office
    • $1.4 million to revamp the Michigan Supreme Court website

The Senate has reported all of their budget bills to the floor for consideration. The House has reported their budgets from the subcommittees and are awaiting further consideration by the full House Appropriations Committee.
