Committee Reports Conflict of Interest Changes

May 11, 2021

Under legislation reported by the House Elections and Ethics Committee this week, a legislator would be required to abstain from voting on bills that could personally benefit them or their families financially. Furthermore, if a legislator were considering investing in a company within a particular industry, they would also need to abstain from voting. The bill was introduced by Representative Pamela Hornberger (R-Chesterfield) and would bring the Michigan House in line with the Michigan Senate, which already operates under this standard. The bill has been sent to the House floor for consideration.
