Changes to Consumer Fireworks Reported by Committee

Nov 30, 2018

This week, the House Regulatory Reform Committee approved two bills regarding the use and safety of consumer fireworks in Michigan. Introduced by Representative Jim Lilly (R-Park Twp.), the legislation is in response to issues that have come up after the legislature voted in 2011 to legalize consumer fireworks. The first bill aims to enhance the abilities of local municipalities to determine the times consumer fireworks may be fired off within their city limits. The second bill allows the governor to prohibit the use of consumer fireworks in any county on any given day if he or she determines weather conditions make the activity dangerous to people and property. The legislation has been sent to the House floor for consideration.
