Apr 23, 2021

House Speaker Jason Wentworth (D-Farwell) and House Democratic Leader Donna Lasinski (D-Scio Twp.) announced a series of reforms their caucuses are working on collaboratively that would make changes to state ethics and transparency laws. Together, the leaders stated they would make the proposed reforms a priority over the coming weeks.

Specifics within the package include:

    • Legislators and department heads would be prohibited from becoming a lobbyist for two years after the end of their term or tenure.
    • New penalties for legislators who fail to show up for the job or act unethically.
    • Require financial disclosures for lawmakers and state officers.

The legislation is expected to be discusses in committee beginning next week.
