This week, Representative Lisa Posthumus Lyons (R-Alto) introduced a bill that would stop a former state representative or senator from running in the special election held to fill the seat they left vacant. The bill would ban a legislator who resigns from running in an election to fill that seat during the remainder of the legislative term. Additionally, if a legislator is removed from office, they would also be ineligible to run to fill that seat. The following day, the House Elections Committee, which is chaired by Represented Lyons, took testimony on the bill. The bill remains before the committee awaiting further consideration.
