According to numbers released this week by the Department of Technology, Management, and Budget, Michigan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate last month was 4.5%. The rate remains unchanged from July and is six-tenths of a percentage point lower than the prior year. During August 2016, the state’s labor force declined by 5,000, while total employment declined by 7,000.
In the Detroit-Warren-Dearborn market, the unemployment rate also remained unchanged from the prior month at 4.9%. This is a decrease of nine-tenths of a percentage point from the August 2015. The number of unemployed increased by 1,000, while total employment remained unchanged.
