Attorney General Dana Nessel announced two new division chiefs and the creation of a new division this week. The newly created Criminal Trials and Appeals Division combines the department’s Criminal Division and the Criminal Appellate Division. It will handle all general, criminal trial and appellate work for the department, along with habeas proceedings. Mark Blumer has been appointed to serve as the division chief. He most recently worked as magistrate of the 55th District Court and as chief assistant prosecutor in Jackson County. Prior to that, he worked for 30 years at the Department of Attorney General. He received his law degree from the University of Detroit School of Law.
Josh Booth has been appointed to serve as chief of the Opinions Division. He has worked in the Attorney General’s office since 2012, most recently as acting chief of the Criminal Appellate Division. Prior to that he served as first assistant in the Licensing and Regulation Division and as an appellate specialist in the State Operations Division. Prior to his work in the Attorney General’s office, Mr. Booth worked at the Michigan Court of Appeals and as an appellate attorney. He received his law degree from Cooley Law School.
