This week, Attorney General Bill Schuette, announced the first individuals to be charged as a result of actions in the Flint water contamination crisis. Felony and misdemeanor charges have been filed against two employees of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and the City of Flint Laboratory and Water Quality Supervisor. The charges filed against the two DEQ officials include misconduct in office, tampering with evidence, and treatment and monitoring violations under the Michigan Safe Drinking Water Act. The Flint employee faces charges of tampering with evidence and willful neglect of duty.
The Attorney General noted that more charges against these individuals are possible at a later day. Additionally, the investigation is ongoing and there will likely be additional individuals charged in the future.
