This week, the House Appropriations Committee reported the omnibus budget providing funding for state departments in the upcoming fiscal year. Prior to reporting the budget the committee made a few changes to the budget, including additional funds for the heat and eat program, $3 million to the First Responder Presumed Coverage Fund, and funding a study on the fiscal effects of moving seventeen year olds into the juvenile justice system.
The Senate Appropriations Committee reported its final two budgets to the Senate floor this week. Most notably, the full committee retained the subcommittee’s recommendation of closing two prisons in the state, a major point of difference with the House’s version of the Department of Corrections budget.
The next step in the process will see the House and Senate chambers voting on the budgets and sending them to the other chamber for consideration.
