More than one million Michigan voters have applied to vote via absentee ballot in next month’s primary election. In an update to prior data released by the Michigan Secretary of State’s office, the number of those wishing to participate in the election by absentee ballot continues to rise, especially over the 2018 election, which was the last gubernatorial election cycle in the state.
The newest information looks at 21 days prior to the upcoming election (July 11) vs. 21 days prior to the 2018 primary election. So far, 1,033,456 voters have submitted an application, while during 2018 only 549,736 applications had been received 21 days prior to the election. Also, as of 21 days prior to the primary race, 215,579 absentee ballots of have been returned, while that number was 157,908 during the 2018 election cycle.
