House Committee Moves Retail Crime Legislation

Jun 10, 2022

Legislation penalizing organized retail crime under the state’s racketeering statute was reported by the House Judiciary Committee this week. Introduced by Senator Jim Runestad (R-White Lake), the bill adds language to the state’s racketeering penal code in order to provide more legal leverage against criminals at the top of retail crime efforts. The legislation has received broad support, including Attorney General Dana Nessel, Solicitor General Fadwa A. Hammoud, and the Michigan State Police. The bill was sent to the House floor for further consideration.
