Governor Gretchen Whitmer is seeking to streamline the permitting process to help infrastructure projects get started quicker and be completed on time and budget by boosting inter-departmental coordination through an executive directive signed this week. The directive requires the Michigan Infrastructure Office (MIO) to convene all relevant state departments and agencies to develop a coordinated permitting process for each large infrastructure project over $50 million. Additionally, it requires state departments and agencies to create publicly available permitting schedules offering clear timelines and avoiding duplication efforts. Finally, it instructs the MIO to develop a permitting dashboard to track progress of projects and ensure that all projects meet environmental and climate resilience goals.
