Subcommittees Begin Reporting Budgets

Apr 15, 2022

This week, Appropriations Subcommittees began reporting the budgets within their purview for the upcoming fiscal year beginning on October 1, 2022. The budgets will be sent to the Appropriations Committees for consideration before being sent to the chambers’ floors for a full vote. Aspects within the reported budgets include:

    • Community colleges would see a funding increase of 1% – 10.5% under a new funding formula.
    • $55 million for the Michigan Reconnect Program
    • The Michigan State Police budget would increase to $1.5 billion
    • Public safety officers could receive a retention bonus of up to $5,000
    • $50 million for school resource officers
    • The Military and Veterans Affairs budget would increase 3.8% over the current year, but is $100 million lower than executive recommendations
    • $750 million in new General Funding for local roads
