House Passes COVID-19 Funding

This week, the House passed legislation appropriating just over $1 billion in federal COVID relief dollars. The bill, introduced by Representative Julie Calley (R-Portland), is aimed at expanding early treatment capacity, ease worker shortages, and keeping schools open for in-person learning. Specifics within the bill include:

- $668 million for COVID testing; of which $150 million would be allocated for schools to buy testing kits and the state to stockpile additional kits for schools.
- $300 million for health care employee recruitment and retention and additional support for nursing homes and long-term care facilities.
- $134 million for treatments such as monoclonal antibodies, which help lessen the severity of COVID cases. The funds would help Michigan buy and expand delivery potential.

The bill will be sent to the Senate for consideration.
