Ballot Box Changes Reported

Nov 12, 2021

A bill package establishing a chain of custody for absentee voter ballots picked up from drop boxes was approved by the Senate Elections Committee this week. This is the latest in a series of election-related reforms that have been moving through the legislature in recent months. The bill would require a chain of custody log, which includes the date of collection, the individual who collected them, and the location they were collected. Additionally, it would require the drop box to be clearly labeled, securely locked with the inability to remove ballots or the box, and display text saying the area may be under surveillance. The bills have been sent to the Senate floor for consideration.
