On Tuesday, February 2, Michigan Congresswoman Candice Miller (R-Harrison Twp.), introduced the Drinking Water Contamination Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2016, providing $1 billion in funding to replace the underground water line infrastructure in the City of Flint. While the Congresswoman acknowledge the State of Michigan is culpable for the situation, she stated the federal government, through the Environmental Protection Agency, also bears some responsibility. In a press release she recognized the uphill battle that she will face getting her legislation approved, “I am introducing an emergency supplemental bill to provide $1 billion dollars to be used to replace the water pipes in Flint. And I realize that this is a lot of money. I am well aware of the limited federal resources we have, and I know that getting support for this will be very difficult, so I don’t want to give the residents of Flint false hope. This will be a tough fight, but I believe it is one that is absolutely necessary.”
