Kent County Holding Special Senate General Election

Next week, a special general election will be held to fill the open 28^th Senate district in Kent County. The seat was left open after former Senator Pete MacGregor resigned after he won election as Kent County Treasurer. The winner will fill the remainder of the term, which ends on January 1, 2023. Due to the district makeup, Representative Huizenga is expected to win.

The candidates are:

- Democratic candidate – Keith Courtade
  - Former Kent County Commissioner.
- Republican candidate – Representative Mark Huizenga
  - State representative, owns a consulting firm, former city commissioner and mayor.
  - Committees – House Appropriations and House Appropriations Subcommittees on Higher Education, Community Colleges, Health and Human Services, School Aid and Department of Education, and Transportation.
- Libertarian candidate – Alex Avery
- U.S. Taxpayers Party candidate – Theodore Gerrard
