Bill Monitoring Election Training Moves Forward

Sep 03, 2021

The Senate Elections Committee reported legislation informing residents if their local clerk has not met the state’s election training requirements. The bill, introduced by Senator Roger Victory (R-Georgetown Twp.), would require the Secretary of State to submit a report to the legislature no less than 60 days prior to each November general election detailing the names of each county, city, and township clerk who are not current with all training and continuing education requirements. The bill also requires the report to be posted online. Additionally, the bill requires the Secretary of State to send clerks who are incomplete in their training proper notice, and they would have 30 days to provide proof they have complete their training. Once their training is complete, their names would be removed from the website. The bill has been sent to the Senate floor for further consideration.
