Federal Unemployment Benefits Program Set to End

Aug 27, 2021

Federal jobless benefits through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act and American Rescue Plan Act are set to expire September 4, 2021. The programs expiring include:

    • Pandemic Unemployment Assistance, which provides benefits to workers who are not ordinarily eligible for unemployment benefits, such as self-employed, independent contractors, and gig economy workers.
    • Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation allowing up to 53 weeks of additional benefits to those who had exhausted their regular state claim.
    • Pandemic Unemployment Compensation providing an additional $300 per week to anyone receiving regular state or federal unemployment benefits.
    • Mixed Earners Unemployment Compensation, which provides an additional $100 per week to claimants who have earned at least $5,000 in net self-employment income.

Since March 15, 2020, over 2.4 million Michigan residents have received more than $38 billion in unemployment benefits.
