Members of the Senate Republican caucus introduced a 39-bill package making reforms to the state’s election laws. The package covers a wide range of election related issues including the processes before, during, and after an election; ballot security in drop boxes; management of the state’s Qualified. Voter File; poll challenger training; and post-election audits. Some aspects of the plan would allow 16-year-olds to preregister to vote when getting their first driver’s license, expands challengers’ access to observe the counting of absentee votes, and aims to make it easier for active-duty military members to securely vote while overseas. The bill package was referred to the Senate Elections Committee for consideration. The committee is chaired by Senator Ruth Johnson (R-Holly), Michigan ‘s former secretary of state.
