Through the primary election on August 4 on the MLC Blog we will highlight races for which the primary is the key race due to the voter base. Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.

District Overview

The 21^st House District is located in Wayne County and includes Belleville, and portions of Canton and Van Buren Townships.

Commentary

Democratic Representative Kristy Pagan is serving her third and final term in office, leaving this seat open. The district has a 56% Democratic base. In 2016, President Trump received 42.54% of the vote and in 2018 Governor Gretchen Whitmer received 62.49% of the vote.

- Ethan Petzold – Substitute teacher, former nonprofit professional and community organizer
- Ranjeev Puri – Works at an auto manufacturer, previously worked at Obama for America
