Through the primary election on August 4 on the MLC Blog we will highlight races for which the primary is the key race due to the voter base. Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.

District Overview

The 7^th House District is located in Wayne County. It includes Highland Park and a portion of the City of Detroit.

Commentary

Representative LaTanya Garrett is serving her third and final term in office, leaving this seat open. The district has a 98% Democratic base and the winner of the crowded Democratic primary race in August is all but assured a victory in November.

In 2016 President Trump received only 1.75% of the vote and in 2018 Governor Whitmer received 97.62% of the vote.
