We The People . . . Celebrating Constitution Day

Sep 18, 2019

September is an important month in our nation’s history.  While September 11, 2001 will forever weigh heavy on our hearts, it’s also a month where Americans have shown their resiliency and dedication to our country and citizens.  September is also the month when over 230 years ago our American democracy was created. It was on September 17, 1787 that the U.S. Constitution was signed.  Many organizations, including educational institutions, courts, governmental entities and Michigan citizens celebrate Constitution Day on September 17th each year. It’s an important time to reflect on the importance of the U.S. Constitution and the rights and protections that it provides to every American.

The Michigan Supreme Court’s Learning Center holds special events in celebration of Constitution Day.  Their activities include special Constitution themed tours, guest speakers and free curriculum materials for each school group that participates in the special occasion.  If you can’t attend a tour of the Hall of Justice, there are plenty of materials that you can access on the Supreme Court’s website:

This September 17th take a moment to reflect on the U.S. Constitution and appreciate how it was designed so that “We the People” are represented through elected government and have access to justice under the law.
