Senate to Hold Advice and Consent Hearing on Gubernatorial Appointment

The Senate Advice and Consent Committee has scheduled a hearing on September 12 to consider the appointment of Tremaine Phillips to the Michigan Public Service Commission. Mr. Phillips was appointed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer to the commission in mid-July following the vacancy left by Norm Saari, whose term on the board ended on July 2, 2019.

Prior to the appointment, Mr. Phillips was the director of the Cincinnati 2030 District. Previously, he worked at Empower Gas and Electric, LLC and the Michigan Environmental Council, served as assistant deputy director of the Department of Energy, Labor, and Economic Growth during the Granholm administration, and interned with the White House Council on Environmental Quality. His term expires July 2, 2025.

The Michigan Public Service Commission is a public body composed of three members appointed by the governor, of which no more than two commissioners may represent the same political party. Its tasked with ensuring Michigan residents have access to safe and reliable energy and telecommunications services.
