March’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained steady for the sixth consecutive month at 4%. During the month, total employment increased by 7,000, while the number of unemployed increased by 3,000. The state’s total workforce has advanced by 11,000 since February. The March 2019 rate was four-tenths of a percentage point below the March 2018 rate of 4.4%. However, Michigan’s rate last month was two-tenths of a percentage point above the national rate of 3.8%.
In the Detroit-Warren-Dearborn market the unemployment rate increased slightly from 4.0% in February to 4.1% in March. Total employment rose by 4,000, while the number of unemployed increased by 1,000. Workforce gains for the month were 5,000.
