General Election Overview: 93rd House District

Through the general election on November 6, the MLC Blog will be highlighting races generally considered swing seats, ones either party could win because of the voter base.  Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.

 District Overview

The 93rd House District includes Clinton County and a portion of Gratiot County.

 Commentary

House Speaker Tom Leonard (R) is serving his final term in this seat, due to term limits. While the district has a 60% Republican base, in the last two presidential elections the vote split was close to 50/50. As recently as 2014, the district narrowly voted in favor of the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate. With that being said, in 2016 Speaker Leonard received 62% of the vote and 56% of the vote in 2014.

Democratic Candidate:

  • Dawn Levey – Public school teacher, Michigan Education Association board member, certified Emergency Medical Technician

Republican Candidate:

  • Graham Filler – Assistant Attorney General, including for the Michigan Public Service Commission
