Lt. Governor Underscores Michigan as a Manufacturing Leader

Oct 12, 2018

On Wednesday, Lt. Governor Brian Calley traveled to Washington D.C. to participate in the Manufacturing USA Congressional Briefing. The briefing, hosted by the House and Senate Manufacturing Caucuses in conjunction with Manufacturing USA and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, focused on securing global leadership in advanced manufacturing, enhancing national security, and accelerating economic growth.

The Lt. Governor participated in the event to underscore Michigan’s role as an advanced manufacturing leader. Michigan is home to the only co-located Manufacturing USA institutes with LIFT (Lightweighting Industries for Tomorrow) and IACMI (Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation), which is located in Corktown, Detroit. These institutes are public-private partnerships between the U.S. Department of Defense, the State of Michigan, manufacturers, and academia. Together these co-located institutes are working to accelerate the development and deployment of lightweight materials and composites that will provide more fuel-efficient vehicles, safer and stronger armor and materiel, and provide training opportunities for students and workers alike.
