General Election Overview: 41st House District

District Overview

The 41^st House District is located in Oakland County and includes the cities of Clawson and Troy.

Commentary

Republican Representative Martin Howrylak is serving his third and final term in office. The district has a 54% Republican base but voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 Presidential Election. Republican candidate Doug Tietz has been elected to public office and has campaign experience, while Democratic candidate Padma Kuppa has served on the local planning commission and has been an active community volunteer. The district has slowly been trending more toward the middle, making this seat competitive

Democratic Candidate:

Padma Kuppa – Mechanical engineer in the auto industry, project manager, serves on the Troy Planning Commission, founding member of Troy Interfaith

Republican Candidate:

Doug Tietz – Oakland County Commissioner, former member of the Troy City Council, small business owner, District Director for Congressman Dave Trott
