District Overview

The 79th House District is located in Berrien County in Southwest Michigan.

Commentary

Representative Kim LaSata (R) is foregoing a run for reelection to this seat in order to run for an open seat in the Michigan Senate. The district has a 57% Republican base.

Democratic Candidates:

  • Joey Andrews – Attorney, owns a solar panel installing business
  • Marletta Seats – President of the Benton Harbor School Board, former Berrien County Commissioner

Republican Candidates:

  • JoAnn DeMeulenaere – Bridgman School Board member, medical malpractice paralegal
  • Bruce Gorenflo – Technical writer and product communications coordinator
  • Maria Moen – International Destination Services Consultant, former member of the Board of Directors and the Public Relations Committee for the St. Joseph Public Schools Foundation
  • Troy Rolling – Owns a concierge company, former Vice-Chairman of the Michigan Republican Party
  • Pauline Wendzel – Product brand development manager, former Assistant Deputy Bainbridge Clerk
