Office for New Americans Director to Retire

Bing Goei, Director of the Michigan Office for New Americans (MONA) is retiring from his position. He has served in the role since Governor Rick Snyder appointed him in January 2014, when the Governor created the office to help propel and diversify the state’s comeback through attracting and retaining highly skilled immigrants.

Governor Snyder announced that MONA Deputy Director Karen Phillippi will serve as interim director of the agency. She has served as Deputy Director since March 2014, prior to that she worked in the field of immigration law and immigration integration for 26-years.

MONA directs immigrant integration initiatives for the state and partners with refugee resettlement agencies, economic development organizations, ethnic service providers, universities, the state’s various ethnic commissions, and many other organizations.
