Through the primary election on August 7, on every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday on the MLC Blog we will be highlighting races for which the primary is the key race due to the voter base. Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.

District Overview

The 12^th Senate District is located in Oakland County. The district includes Addison Township, Auburn Hills, Bloomfield Township, Independence Township, Keego Harbor, Oakland Township, Orion Township, Oxford Township, Pontiac, Southfield Township, Sylvan Lake, and the Village of Clarkston.

Commentary

This seat is open due to current Senator Jim Marleau (R) being term limited from running again. The Republican primary race has four candidates, two of which are current State Representatives. The district has a 54% Republican base; however, political insiders have stated this will not be a sure bet for the Republicans come November.

Michael McCready – State Representative, former Bloomfield City commission and Mayor, small business owner
Vernon Molnar – Political analyst for the Republican Party, former CEO of the Molnar Group
Jim Tedder – State Representative, small business owner, former administrator with Clarkston Community Schools
Terry Whitney – Business owner
