Governor Snyder Visits California to Promote Mobility and IT in Michigan

During the beginning of this week, Governor Rick Snyder spent three days in Silicon Valley meeting with large tech companies, start-ups, and investors. Along with representatives from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, he met with new mobility, advanced technology, agriculture and manufacturing companies, participated in roundtables with technology experts, venture capitalists and CEOs. Additionally, the Governor visited the NASA Ames Research Center to highlight Michigan’s aerospace industry.

Key areas Governor Snyder focused on during his trip include:

Michigan has two of the world’s foremost autonomous vehicle testing centers, with others currently in development.
The Michigan Department of Transportation will complete 350+ miles of connected vehicle roadways by next year.
Michigan ranks first nationally in mobility-related patents filed.
Michigan employs seven mechanical, industrial, and aerospace engineers per 1,000 residents, ranking first in the nation.
The FIRST Robotics World Championships begin this month in Detroit, with Michigan having more teams than any other state.
The national Intelligent Transportation Society will convene in Detroit in June.

The timing of the trip comes on the heels of the grand opening of the high-speed loop at the American Center for Mobility, the release of the Council on Future Mobility’s 2018 report, as well as the proclamation of April 4 through 11 as Mobility Week in Michigan. Recently, the state was recognized as the third highest state in the nation for net tech job growth.
