The 1st House District has been vacant since the resignation of former State Representative Brian Banks. On Tuesday, August 8, a special primary election will be held, with the winner of each party going head-to-head in November to fill the vacant seat.
The 1st House District includes Grosse Pointe Woods, Harper Woods, and portions of the City of Detroit and the Village of Grosse Pointe Shores. “Like many districts in this area of the state, the seat has a strong democratic base. The winner in the Democratic primary is all but assured to be the State Representative following November’s election,” stated Tony Des Chenes of MLC.
